Maris And The Merry Rockers

Marissa “Maris” Lelogeais is a singer/songwriter from Boston MA. In January 2012, she founded Maris And The Merry Rockers, a five-piece folk rock reggae band that is made up of current students and alumni of Berklee College Of Music. She started the band because ” All the people around me were bringing their music to life and I didn’t know how to and I wanted to play music with other people who could help me do that!”

Maris started writing songs in 2007 when she started at Berklee College Of Music. “When I write, I feel like I’m revealing a part of myself that I didn’t even know was inside me” she says.

Maris has a broad range of influences spanning from Coldplay, to Alison Krauss and Union Station, to Bob Marley and bands such as Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Rubblebucket Orchestra, Thunder Body, John Brown’s Body and Passafire.
Maris isn’t alone on this exciting journey. She’s joined by bassist Galen Willett, guitarists Pat Wheyland and Erick Jaljas, and drummer Ian “Meat” Miller. Since the group started in January, they have played many venues in and around Boston such as The Middle East Corner, Bella Luna, PA’S Lounge and The Milky Way and have shared the stage with acts such as Tubby Love, Eric Robertson And The Boston Boys, Cameron Galpan and Nick Hakim.

They’ve just recorded their first EP “The Fruit Of Life” which was produced by Toft Willingham who just happens to be the lead singer of Spiritual Rez on of Maris’s favorite bands and mixed by Brian Silver at 9B Studios in Milford, MA. Brian had this to say about working with MMR ” Working with Maris and her band was a wonderful experience”. Maris had a very creative and open mind”.

The Merry Rockers are just getting started and look forward to sharing their music with you!!
“When you hear Marissa sing you are not hearing her disability. You are hearing music. You are hearing inspiration. You are hearing what soul really is. It comes through effortlessly. It is her strength.”
- James Searl of Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad
